The Sacred Music Society (SMS) is a world-renowned performing arts and educational society founded in 1996 by Maestro Uwe Lieflander.
We offer choral instruction for children from pre-K to high school as part of the Sparrows Children’s Choir and for adult choirs, and a training program to form future instructors for our programs. We offer a unique instructional method for instilling love of sacred and traditional music in our students. We have worked with many school systems ranging from public, Catholic, private, and home school. We also offer after-school programs. We regularly provide music for worship in churches. We have given concerts with orchestra and had the privilege to sing at World Youth Day 2002, Toronto, as part of a 500-voice choir. Concerts typically feature music sung by the beginning singers in addition to the main piece sung by the more advanced singers.
Our particular passion is the Sparrows children’s program which uses a unique approach that we have developed and that has set many children and schools alight with its success. To quote one of our Catholic school principals: "Children sing with the voices of angels and God's work is manifest through them. This is sacred work.” As our Maestro notes, “It is amazing to observe the vast and far-reaching changes that occur with this music on a physiological, psychological, and spiritual level. As a result of listening to or singing this music, billions of new neural connections are made. One is changed at the most fundamental level. This certainly happens to me, a bit at a time, at every rehearsal, concert, or service. I must have the job with the highest and best benefit package in the world! It is very transformative."
With the musical heritage of traditional sacred music, the Sacred Music Society has an artistic repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant through classical music to contemporary compositions, including specially commissioned works by gifted composers. We seek to preserve and nurture classical sacred music and provide and restore the church's treasury of divine music in worship.
