Maestro Uwe Lieflander - Founder
Music Director/Instructor
Born in Germany, trained in the famous Regensburg Academy of Church Music in Germany; Conservatory of Music, the University of Toronto and York University in Canada. Maestro has directed the Sacred Music Society since 1996. He has developed our unique Sparrows program through his experience teaching music and deep understanding of pedogogy. His skills range from university level piano and voice instruction, to full orchestral conducting; from a three year old child, to a class room of 75 5th and 6th graders, to university class room. He currently teaches K-8 through university, provides adult community choir groups and our training program for the Sparrows method. He had the honor of conducting the 500 member World Youth Day choir for his Holiness John Paul II in Toronto, 2002, in front of a 1 Billion world wide tv audience.
Alexander McCune - Instructor
Graduate of our Sparrows training program, Alexander McCune has spent his life immersed in music. He has played the piano since childhood, in classical, jazz and many other styles, and expanded onto the pipe organ in recent years. Choral singing began at age six, and Alexander toured Germany and Wales with the award-winning Edmonton Youth Choir. In Ontario, Alexander studied choral and orchestral conducting with Maestro Uwe Lieflander and accompanied and sang with the Sacred Music Society. In 2010, Alexander became an instructor of Maestro Lieflander's Sparrows Choir School, which taught over 2,500 children in the Ottawa Catholic School system. Newly arrived back in Edmonton in 2011, Alex was selected as Apprentice Conductor for the Alberta Youth Honour Choir this year. He is already involved in five different choirs, among other musical endeavours in Edmonton, and is thrilled to be spreading the remarkable Sparrows Method of music education, for Catholic churches and schools.
Joseph Platt - Sparrows Assistant Instructor
Joseph is a graduate of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy and has his teachers qualification in Ontario. He currantly teaches in the Renfrew County Catholic School District and is a Sparrows Assistant to our programs in the Ottawa Valley.
Noel Platt - Sparrows Assistant Instructor
Graduate of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy, Noel is currantly finishing her degree at Redeemer University College. She has a rich musical heritage from her parents and siblings. Gifted with a love for chidlren and beautiful music, Noel is a fabulous assistant in our program.
Veronika Baklinski - Executive Director/Administrator
Mother of seven, Veronika is accustomed to managing and getting a show on the road. She has enjoyed the wealth the Sparrows program is giving her children, and has come on board since 2009 to help the Sparrows and the SMS soar new hights. She has an AA in graphic design and web based development from Bellevue Community College. She has organized and run many community based educational and instructional initiatives on her spare time. Driven and passionate, with a broad and far-reaching vision, Veronika is a talented asset to the SMS.
Andrew Baklinski - Director of Development
Andrew is a graduate of Fransican University of Stubenville, worked with St. Luke Productions as a producer, production designer and audio/visual technician, has his teaching certificate with the Ontario College of Teachers and has taught high school level Theology, and Philosophy for the past 10 years. He has great vision and leadership and is a wealth of direction and inspiration for the Sacred Music Society. He has also produced many of the promotional videos for us that you see on the web site.
